** July 2026 – 5.07% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.57% Market Increase)
** July 2027 – 4.57% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 1.57% Market Increase)

PER COUNTY RULES, THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $65,332.80. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

This position is located in the Department of Public Works in the Land Development Division – Solid Waste Planning and Recycling

Employees in the Recycling Specialist I job class perform professional analytical and administrative work related to recycling and source reduction aspects of the San Diego County Solid Waste Ordinance, and recycling and source reduction policies and programs that enable, facilitate and encourage the reduction of solid waste materials going to landfill, and promote the use of recycled/recyclable materials and products. Under general supervision, employees in this job class assist Recycling Specialist II’s and Program Coordinators in administrating the County’s recycling program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND, six (6) months of experience working for an agency, company or organization in an environmental program.

Additional years of experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
