County of San Diego Preventive Maintenance Coordinator

The Position

The Preventive Maintenance Coordinator will be assigned to the Private Road and Landscape Maintenance section in the Department of Public Works and will provide maintenance services for private roads and landscaping using revenues from property owners in special districts. The section’s Preventive Maintenance Coordinator coordinates, plans, and provides maintenance services for approximately 100 miles of private roads, 400 culverts, and two landscape and open space management districts. The Preventive Maintenance Coordinator will also conduct inspections, respond to service requests, scope maintenance and repair work ,and provide quality control oversight for contractors.

The Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate for Private Road and Landscape Maintenance has knowledge of methods and procedures required for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of a variety of special district facilities, as well as methods used to estimate damage specifically to roads, culverts, and landscape areas, and to compute quantitative requirements for personnel, materials, and equipment necessary to effect repairs. The Ideal Candidate also has knowledge of road related hazards, safety requirements and equipment, contractor oversight, and customer service.

Hiring Timeline & Dates

Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of field experience coordinating roads, facilities, or equipment maintenance, two (2) years of which must have been at the lead level providing direction and expertise to teams performing the work above or other related work.

Future Salary Increases:
** June 2026 – 5.10% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 2.10% Market Adjustment)
** June 2027 – 5.00% increase to base pay (2.90% Across-the- Board + 2.10% Market Adjustment)

The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for Preventive Maintenance Coordinators. Preventive Maintenance Coordinators evaluate, plan, schedule, and coordinate the repair of Public Works roads, facilities, or equipment; to estimate time, personnel, materials, equipment and resources required to make repairs. This eligible list will be used to fill immediate vacancies in the Department of Public Works (DPW) Private Road and Landscape Maintenance related positions but may be used to fill future vacancies in other departments.
