The Position:

The Engineering Services Department is searching for a dedicated team player to join its Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Division as a Junior or Assistant Engineer, depending on experience. The ideal candidate demonstrates confidence, professionalism, and knowledge of civil engineering applicable to CIP assignments. Comprehensive understanding of municipal public works design, construction, and CADD systems is desirable.

The Recruitment Process:

The most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process which includes an in-person Qualifications Appraisal Interview. Qualifications Appraisal Interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 13, 2025. Successful candidates will be placed on the appropriate eligible list for employment consideration for at least six months.

Qualification Guidelines

EDUCATION:
Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate from the State of California.

EXPERIENCE:
Junior Engineer:  None required.
Assistant Engineer: At least one year of full time experience in civil engineering in the area(s) of design, traffic, construction or surveying.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Junior Engineer: Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class C California driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Assistant Engineer: A valid California Class C driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel.
