The North County Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan identified enhancing SPRINTER as an early action initiative for North County. While SPRINTER double tracking and grade separations help provide more frequent and reliable service, enhancing the rail corridor can lead to tensions with local mobility priorities. In this panel discussion hosted by the chapter North County Committee, we will look at the future vision for SPRINTER corridor and discuss opportunities to develop a holistic approach to advance regional and local mobility solutions. Using Caltrain as a case study, we will explore lessons learned from the Caltrain’s Corridor Crossings Strategy to develop a corridor-wide crossings program that helps achieve their long-term service vision and supports local mobility solutions. We will discuss how strategic stakeholder involvement and navigating trade-offs with community members have been critical to the progressing solutions for both rail and local mobility.
